!TATE OF CAL PORP AGFIQ'-Y
RONALD REAGAN, Governor
DEPARTJYkENT OF WATER RESOURCES
CENTRAL DIURICT
301 5 sum"
A.O. BOX YU7
SACRAMENTO 95816
My 0 1,04
Mr. John L. Beaton
Materials and Research Engineer
Transportation Laboratory Branch
Department cf Transpor7ation
5900 Folsom Boulevard
Sacramento, California 95819
Subject: Destruction of Water Wells on Project 10-Si-120, 0.2/5. 9,
10204 - 05281
Dear Mr. Beaton:
Your headquarters office, by memorandum dated March 7, 1974
(copy enclosed) , requested that we investigate and provide information
and recommendations concerning 14 wells proposed for destruction within
the right-of-way of the proposed new route of State Highway 120 between
Interstate 5 and Route 99, just south of Manteca, San Joaquin County.
The wells were inspected on April 11, 1974. of the fourteen
wells, pumps were still in operation on seven, three were sealed by welded
steel plates, one was buried beneath a pile of debris, and two could not
be located. Thus, only one well could be sounded for depth. Driller' s
logs for these wells do not appear in the Department's files.
The enclosed table of well data presents information gleaned
from the maps submitted by your District 10 office, with some additional
data obtained during this investigation. As acted in the "Remarks''
column in the table, three additional wells were discovered near Well
No. 10 and one near Well No. 11 which also may be within the highway
night-of-way. Pumps were in place, so the wells were not measured.
