These sections contain specific <br /> elements pertaining to the Hazardous Materials Business Pian,the hazardous waste contingency plan, <br /> storm water pollution prevention,and underground storage tank(UST)monitoring. <br /> SPILL PREVENTION PLAN <br /> 1. Describe how hazardous materials are handled,stored and monitored to prevent or minimize <br /> a spill or release from occurring(e.g.,secondary containment,segregation of incompatibles, <br /> daily visual monitoring). <br /> Battery systems are inspected by technician upon entry to the facility. Batteries are checked for cracks <br /> or signs of leakage Cables are checked for cracks or suns of fraying Racks are designed for this <br /> purpose and are anchored to prevent tripping or falling of cells Cells are firmly attached to racks. <br /> 2. Describe operations,activities and/or storage locations where a release is most likely to <br /> occur. <br /> Activities are limited to electronic switching and related maintenance of switch gear. <br /> Spills are most likely to happen in battery areas of site <br /> 3. Describe Best Management Practices(BMPs)you use to reduce or eliminate illicit discharge <br /> of pollutants to the storm sewer system. <br /> Battery Electrolvte:Electrolyte is contained in batterieswith-explosion-proofcases-and-batteries are--- <br /> secured in specially designed reinforced batter racks which work in conjunction with earthquake bracing, <br /> Person discovering spill will: Contact 800 KNOW FHS(800-566-9347)• keep others out of area.attempt <br /> to stop the flow of the leak-,wear protective equipment, use spill kit to absorb the leak:or call 911 <br /> 4. Identify areas requiring immediate attention following an earthquake. If power is to be shut off <br /> or some equipment needs to be shut down please describe procedure,who does it and where shut <br /> off is located. <br /> Following an earthquake upon arrival to the site the technician will inspect the battery storage area for <br /> leaks and/or spills In the event of a release attempt to contain the release as described above Evacuate the <br /> area to the designated staging area located away from the equipment If necessary shut down the power to <br /> the equipment usinthe main electrical panel.The batteries are secured in specially desi ned reinforced <br /> battery racks with earthquake bracing and the racks are secured to the floor. <br /> Earthquake resistant_construction is t'm�loved in the building construction of the cell sites. Electrical <br /> transmission and telecommunication systems are designed and built to be earthquake resistant <br /> Remedial Measures are standardised bracing systems using vibration resistant equipment Standby power <br /> agpplies in the form of gel batteries are located in cabinets and are tied down to prevent movement. <br />
