LNS Press Work Safety Standards <br />The following is a general summation of the application of the OSHA standards] 29 CFR <br />1910,147, 1910212, and 1910.219 for pressroom workers <br />I <br />1. When maintaining or repairing equipment, always place the machine in $AFE <br />condition and LOCK OUT the power to avoid the danger of serious injuiiy to <br />yourself and other workers, <br />i <br />i <br />2. Before maintaining or repairing any equipment, lock out the main electrical power <br />disconnect, bleed off all hydraulic and pneumatic systems, secure all parks that <br />can fall, and take any other specific precautions required for the particul2r <br />equipment. j <br />A warning tag or power box lock should be installed to pr6vent others frm <br />starting the equipment, before maintenance is completed and to alert the that <br />maintenance or repair work is in progress, When not in use, turn the equipment <br />OFF, <br />SAFE/STOP use for minor servicing <br />1. Servicing ormaintenance must not be conducted when machine components are <br />moving. Before performing any minor servicing, the machine must be STOPPED, <br />and its drive control must be in STOP/SAFE position. <br />2. Procedures to INCH a machine must include a pre -startup check to assuf e the safe <br />positioning of employees and to assure that all tools, etc. are positioned Po that <br />they do not create a hazard for employees or damage to the press. <br />3. DEACTIVATE the SAFE function immediately before safely inching the <br />machine component for positioning purposes conducive to plate -up or pjrinting. <br />4. By use of the inch control, the components of the machine are moved to; their <br />desired position. Immediately thereafter, the drive control is placed on <br />STOP/SAFE by each employee working in a hazardous area before begnning or <br />resuming the cleaning or repair work activity. <br />S. Steps (2) through (4) are repeated as necessary until the cleaning or rep4ir is <br />completed. <br />When minor servicing is conducted and the use of the STOP/SAFE drive contr�l is the <br />method of safeguarding employees, the controls to make READY, to INCH, and to <br />START the machine must be under the exclusive control of the authorized person(s) who <br />is/are performing the servicing. If there is a likelihood that the START or INCFI controls <br />can be inadvertently activated by any employee, including the one performing e minor <br />servicing, it is necessary that the permissive period be immediately canceled b <br />
