Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory Fuel Ta n k Pressure Test
Purpose
-est that there are no leaks on each of a fuel tanks containment sections that would allow for the fuel tanks
contents to leak into the environment.
Procedure
1. Pump out the contents of the fuel tank into an auxiliary tank prior to performing a pressure test.
a. If a generator fuel tank is being pressure tested, use a fuel polisher to pump out the fuel so that
contaminants can be removed from the fuel. Also ensure that a backup generator is available and connected
while the pressure test is being performed on the primary generator fuel tank.
1. Seal all ports on the fuel tank and attach the pressure test piping assembly to a nitrogen bottle and the fuel tank
as shown:
3
3 PSI 3PSI
Dish D* FUEL rAkK
z
US
r.
M(Sn/f F-ft w F Sk" 1'.lF 116[ N},If glYE
1pPRnKry..A GO {~-,
p
3. Pressudre the primary tank up to 3.0 PSI and then seal the tank. Record the pressure to the nearest 0.1 PSI every
15 minutes over a 60-minute period.
4. While maintaining pressure in the primary tank, pressurize the secondary tank up to 3.0 PSI and then seal the
tank. Record the pressure to the nearest 0.1 PSI every 15 minutes over a 60-minute period. After the testing is
completed, safely discharge the nitrogen from the fuel tank.
5. Remove the pressure test piping assembly from the fuel tank. Remove all port seals and connect any auxiliary
components that were removed.
Results
Building Equipment ID
8 7 ,S 6714 3 59 0/4'?,ser" --
Tank Section 15 30 45 1 60
(minutes) (minutes) (minutes) (minutes)
Results
(PSI,0 1) 31-J I 31 S/ 3 3 RYI Pass Fail ❑
Secondary Al A I ,V
(PSI,0.1) Pass El Fail O
Technician(s)(EMP#) Date Tested Initials
a33wc O 3r6 11-, 9-
1
