EEAP <br />THE SAFETY PEOPLE <br />GOTSAFETY <br />-.Cam <br />INTRODUCTION <br />HAZARD <br />COMMUNICATION & GHS <br />OSHA revised the Hazard Communication standard to align with the <br />United Nation's Globally Harmonized System of Classification and <br />Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The revision improves the quality and <br />consistency of hazard communication in the workplace, so chemical <br />information is consistent internationally. Hazard communication is vital <br />for worker understanding of the hazards associated with the chemicals <br />in their workplace. <br />HAZARD COMMUNICATION PROGRAM <br />Hazard <br />Communication <br />If employees may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, a written Hazard Communication <br />program must be implemented. The Hazard Communication program entails how hazard <br />communication will be addressed at your worksite and procedures for labeling, maintaining <br />safety data sheets and providing employee information. <br />ff11,f,f if Afj <br />SAFETY DATA <br />SHEETS � <br />SDS <br />LABELS <br />SAFETY DATA SHEETS (SDS) <br />The Hazard Communication Standard requires chemical <br />manufacturers, distributors, or importers to provide Safety Data <br />Sheets (SDSs) (formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets or <br />MSDSs) to communicate the hazards of hazardous chemical <br />products. The HCS requires new SDSs to be in a uniform format. <br />Please refer to safety lesson, "Hazard Communication — Safety <br />Data Sheets (SDS)" for more information. <br />The requirements for labeling of hazardous chemicals under the <br />Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires the following <br />elements: <br />• Signal word(s). <br />• Pictogram(s). <br />a Manufacturer information <br />• Precautionary statements/ first aid. <br />Hazard Statement(s) <br />The product identifier or name. <br />Refer to safety lesson, "Hazard Communication — GHS Labels" for more information. <br />Ammonia (Anhydrous) <br />DANGER <br />Questions?
