Training Requirements For Handlers of Hazardous Materials <br /> My business has a Hazardous Materials Management Plan, what training is <br /> required for my employees? <br /> The following subjects need to be covered, as a minimum: <br /> 1 . Instruction in the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials, including <br /> maintenance of monitoring records. <br /> 2. Instruction in emer enc rocedures for leaks spills. fires or explosions, including <br /> shutdown opera ions an evacuation procedures. <br /> a. Mitigation, prevention, or abatement of hazards to persons, property, or the <br /> environment. <br /> b. Procedures for coordination with local emergency response organizations. <br /> C. Use of emergency response equipment and supplies under the control of the <br /> handler. <br /> d. Identification of areas of the facility and mechanical or other systems that <br /> require immediate inspection or isolation because of their vulnerability to <br /> earthquake related ground motion. <br /> 3. Immediate notification o : <br /> a. Local emergency personnel. <br /> b. The administering agency and the State Office of Emergency Services. <br /> C. Persons within the facility who are necessary to respond to an incident. <br /> 4. Immediate notification and evacuation of the facility. <br /> 5. Identification of local emergency medical assistance appropriate for the potential <br /> accident scenarios. <br /> 6. Record keeping procedures for documenting training given to employees. <br /> Note: The business plan shall include provisions for ensuring that appropriate personnel <br /> receive initial and refresher training. You must document all training and refresher <br /> training. Training records are your only proof that your employees have been trained. <br /> For more information on training requirements see Title 19 California Code of Regulations, <br /> Chapter 4, Article 4, Section 2732 and the 1998 California Fire Code, Appendix Il-E, <br /> Hazardous Materials Management Plan, Section 3.2.8. <br /> 5/25/00 <br />
