0 0 <br /> UNPLANNED RELEASE OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALSM►ASTE <br /> �. In the event of a hazardous material, hazardous waste, or hazardous gas release <br /> to air, soil, or surface water, the personnel at the location must immediately <br /> report the release to one of the emergency coordinators in the facility. The <br /> emergency coordinator will assess the magnitude and nature of the release, and <br /> immediately take necessary actions of notifying other potentially affected <br /> employees and reporting it to the relevant local and state authorities for possible <br /> evacuation of the surrounding areas. <br /> 2. Without delay, others in the affected area should act promptly to contain the <br /> release. <br /> 3. The emergency coordinator(s) will perform the following: <br /> A. Attempt to identify the source of the release (a leaking vessel, container, <br /> gas line, or an over-turned container, etc.) and the cause of the release so <br /> that appropriate corrective action can be taken. <br /> B. Remove all sources of ignition from the area to avoid escalating the <br /> problem. <br /> C. Clear the area of other objects and sources of additional hazardous <br /> materials and wastes. <br /> D. Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment when cleaning up a <br /> spill. Avoid contact with skin and avoid breathing the fumes.
