CERTIFIED APPLIANCE RECYCWPLICATION CHECK LIST ft
REFRIGERANTS: FREON, CFC, HCFC, AND NON- CFC
1. Applicant identified means for employee to identify refrigerants
❑ Appliance identification tag
❑ Call refrigerant re -claimer or equipment manufacturer.
❑ Visual inspection:
i. Ammonia refrigerant usually requires natural gas to operate, look for a hookup
and a compressors 2-3 times larger than CFC type compressors.
ii. Sulfur dioxide refrigerators use compressors 2-3 times larger than CFC type
compressors.
iii. Ammonia and sulfur dioxide refrigerators are typically constructed as a separate
section unlike the unibody of the CFC units.
❑ Pressure/temperature test: Measure the pressure within the system and the external
atmospheric temperature, correlate with chart. (does not work well for A/C units that
contain CFC -12 or HFC -134a.
❑ Use training or receive On -the -Job Training
❑ Other
2. Applicant identified acceptable method and equipment used to remove refrigerants
C* Extraction Recovery equipment: removes refrigerant and transfers it to a storage tank
without further processing. Self contained: capable of removing the refrigerant from an appliance
without assistance of components contained in the appliance.
❑ Extraction Recycling equipment: removes the -refrigerant from an appliance, cleans the
refrigerant by oil separation and cycling through filter dryers to remove moisture, acidity,
and particulate matter.
❑ Other
12/27/2005
