r , <br />Ccorgia-Pacific Corporation Product Number _CHLORINE <br />water to form hydrochloric acid; it also combines with carbon monoxide and <br />sulfur dioxide to form phosgene and sulfuryl chloride (toxic and corrosive <br />materials). <br />HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: None <br />HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: WILL OCCUR WILL NOT OCCUR X <br />CONDITIONS TO AVOID: N/A <br />SECTION VI - HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION <br />EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE: <br />Chlorine gas may cause severe irritation of the eyes, nose, and <br />respiratory tract with tearing, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, choking, <br />and chest pain. Severe breathing difficulties may occur which may be <br />delayed in onset. Pneumonia may result. In high concentrations chlorine <br />may irritate the skin and cause sensations of burning and prickling, <br />inflammation, and blister formation. Any contact with liquid chlorine may <br />cause burns, blistering and tissue destruction. Severe exposures may be <br />fatal. Corrosion of the teeth, skin irritation, and reduced respiratory <br />capacity may result from repeated or prolonged exposure. <br />PROBABLE ROUTES OF EXPOSURE: Inhalation, skin <br />EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES <br />Call physician IMMEDIATELY for any person overexposed to chlorine! <br />INGESTION• N/A <br />INHALATION: Hove person to fresh air at once. Restore breathing when <br />required. Administer oxygen. Keep warm and at rest! In <br />mild cases, give milk to relieve throat irritation. Get <br />immediate medical attention. <br />EYE CONTACT: If liquid chlorine or high concentrations of chlorine gas <br />get into eyes, wash eyes with large amounts of water, <br />occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. <br />SKIN CONTACT: Treat for inhalation exposure first. If liquid chlorine or <br />high concentrations of chlorine gas get on the skin, <br />immediately flush the contaminated skin with water. If <br />clothing is contaminated, remove and immediately flush skin <br />with water. If irritation is present after washing, get <br />medical attention. <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />
