FIREFIGHTING TECHNIQUES <br />None required as this product is not flammable, nor <br />does it crate a hazard when i,,volved in a fire. <br />VI. HEALTH HAZARDS <br />An extensive search of the literature failed to reveal <br />any documented cases of industrial illness from ex- <br />posure to sodium hexameta phosphate. It is listed by <br />the Food and Drug Administration as "Generally Re- <br />cognized as Safe": i.e., sequestrant food additive on <br />which no tolerance, limitation or restriction is placed. <br />Ingestion of large quantities may produce gastrointes- <br />tinal irritation and kidney damage. Local irritation may <br />result from contact with the eyes, mucous membranes <br />or skin. <br />1. Wraining Prop.riries - ~- <br />None. <br />VII. FIRST AID <br />First aid should be given immediately. Prompt tteatment <br />may greatly decrease the severity of the effect. In case <br />of injury, the patient should be referred to a physician. <br />1. Ingestion <br />Give large amounts of water or warm salty water to <br />induce vomiting. If this measure is unsuece!:sful, vom- <br />iting may be induced by tickling the back of the pa- <br />tient's throat with a finger. Vomiting should be en- <br />couraged until the vomitus is clear.
