INVORMATION <br />KILN DRIED SALT <br />AJHJ-------- <br />Bulletin No. 0OP06 <br />Leslie Kiln Dried Salt is derived from Solar Evaporated Seawater. It is <br />refined by washing Crude Solar Evaporated Salt with clean, saturated salt brine <br />and fresh water to remove impurities. The salt is drained in bins to remove excess <br />moisture and dried in a rotary kiln. The dried salt is milled and/or screened into <br />various K. D.` Grades. <br />Kiln Dried Grades of Salt are not recommended for the direct addition to a <br />food product, however, Leslie will certify filtered brine derived from Kiln Dried <br />Salt as a food ingredient. <br />KILN DRIED EXTRA COARSE_, COARSE and;EDIUM Salts are g;nratly <br />used to make brine for regenerating water softening ion exchange resins, curing <br />hides, quality grading of peas and lima beans, curing olives and pickles, etc. <br />Coarse and Medium Grades are used by some meat companies as floor salt. <br />KILN DRIED FINE Salt is used in a variety of industrial applications such as <br />a precipitating agent for soap, an abrasive in sand blasting, a component of tile <br />glazing and wood preserving. <br />KILN _DRIED EXTRA FINE Salt is used in industrial detergent formulations <br />KILN DRIED MILL FEED Salt is generally used in animal feeds, stoc blocs, <br />canned and dried pet food, poultry feed, salting hay, etc. Yellow Prussiate of <br />Soda (13.0 ppm -Max.) is added to K.D. Mill Feed Salt to prevent caking.
