X13
. During the drilling investigation, petroleum hydrocarbons were
detected in the upgradient monitoring well, indicating a possible
offsite source. To investigate this possibility further, RESNA
Industries/WaterWork Corporation will investigate neighboring
properties for the possible sources of hydrocarbons. Available
State and County records and aerial photographs wall be searched
along with any additional sources that may be helpful.
7.1 Additional Soil Borings
To further delineate the petroleum hydrocarbon plume in the vadose
zone, WaterWork proposes to drill four additional soil borings
around the former diesel tank location (Figure 7). These borings
will be drilled to a maximum of 8 feet below grade. Soil borings
will be drilled until the lateral extent of soil contamination is
found. Confirmation of clean soils will be verified by analytical
analysis.
All borings will be sampled at the 5 -foot depth intervals using a
split -spoon sampler with brass liners. The material from one
sample ring will be described and field screened with a
photoionization detector (PID) for possible volatile organic
content. The second ring will be sealed at each end with Teflon
• tape and a plastic cap. The cap will be secured with tape and the
sample will be preserved on ice and transported under strict chain -
of -custody procedures to a state -certified laboratory.
Between sampling events, equipment will be cleaned using a three -
bucket wash system. In this system, the rings and samplers are
scrubbed with a brush an a bucket of tap water and detergent, then
rinsed in a bucket of tap water and a fa.nal rinse of distilled
water.
Borings will be drilled using an 8 -inch hollow -stem auger. No
fluids will be used during drilling activities. Following
completion of drilling, bentonite will be placed an the bottom of
each borings. The borings will then be backfilled to grade with
native cuttings. Should hydrocarbon impacted soils be encountered,
the boring will be backfilled with neat cement to grade.
7.2 Laboratory Analysis
Two samples from each boring will be submitted for laboratory
analysis; the sample with the highest PID reading, and the deepest
recovered sample. The samples will be analyzed for BTEX using EPA
method 8020, and TPHG and TPHD using modified EPA method 8015.
Corrigan Property - 381
R0691 TLP 6
