0 0
addition, respiratory protective devices shall be required to be available to
each person in the Exclusion Zone during the soils boring/excavation work
tasks, or within easy reach of those persons working In the Contamination
Reduction Zone, should irritating odors or irritation of respiratory tract
become delectable.
The appropriate air -purifying respiratory protective devices, that are
required to be available for all personnel working on-site, will be fitted with
organic vapor cartridges and dust pre -fillets, or with the high efficiency,
organic vapor/HFPA stack type cartridge. Typically, if the respiratory
protective devices are worn, the cartridge will need to be changed daily.
Physical Hazards
The physical hazards present on most job sites Include working around
heavy equipment, rotation radius for excavators and backhoes, working near
stockpiled soils, and the excavation Itself. Personnel may be required to enter
the excavation areas, heavy equipment operators will consider the overall
work as a Confined Space Entry operation. AAT safely procedures rot working
in confined spaces will be strictly enforced.
Overhead power lines will be strictly avoided by equipment operators.
Equipment operators will maintain ten (10) foot radius clearances from any
overhead lines. It Is not known If any underground lines, tanks or utilities still
do exist in the vicinity or the excavation project site. Supervisory personnel
will determine the presence of underground utilities prior to commencing
excavation activity .
N 1 e azards
Due to the operation of heavy equipment within confined spaces, it Is
expected that high noise levels may be experienced. All personnel working
within the Exclusion Zone will wear hearing protection when equipment is
operating. These devices may be of the disposable plug type or of the ear ttiuff
type, provided that the equipment has been rated for noise reduction by the
manufacturer.
Heat Stress
There is a probability of high, ambient temperatures (over 80 degrees
F.) in the Central Valley of California. Since workers may be required to wear
protective clothing, it is anticipated that they may reach high enough
temperatures that could lead to heat slroi or heat exhaustion symptoms. AAT
will plan on implementing their standard Heal Stress Prevention and
Monitoring Program, unless the project Safety Officer determines that Heal
Stress potentials are not being or will not be experienced by operations
personnel.
4.0 RISK ASSESSMENT SUMMARY
The potential of any Increased risk of exposure on other workers or the
surrounding community is minimal. The basic potential exposure source would
