-„
WtiSTERN GEOLOGIC RESOURCES , INC ,
EXECUTIVE SUNINI
AIZY
40 r ;
Western Geologic Resources,Inc.(WGR)conducted a subsurface investigation in August and
September 1989 at Apache Plastics, Inc. (API) located at 2050 East Fremont Street !n Stcx,kton,
California. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if fuel hydrocarbons are present in the
SOB and shallow groundwater beneath the site.
r a Four soil borings,B-1 through B-4,were drilled and completed as monitor wells MW-1 through
MW-41 respectively. Well MW-1 is located near the former underground storage t
a*along the north
side of the site. Wells MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 are located near the northeast, the oorthwr-st d
southeast corners Of the API building,respectively. First water was observed at about 63 ft below grade
during drilling of the borings.
Soil samples collected during drilling of boring B-1 contained total purgeable petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPPH), characterized as gasoline, up to 5,200 parts-per-million (ppm) and aromatic
hydrocarbons up to 570 ppm xylenes. The 59 ft sample from boring B-3 contained 0.005 ppm xylenes.
Low concentrations of 1,2-dichloroethane(1,2-DCA)were detected in the 67.7 ft sample collected from
boring B-2 and the 67.2 ft sample from boring B-3. TPPH and are r h d
detected in any of the soil samples from borings B-2 and B-4, hydrocarbons were not
TPPH,characterized as gasoline,were present in the groundwater samples from wells MW-1
and MW-3 at concentrations up to 750,000 parts-per-billion(ppb)and 300 ppb,respectively. Aromatic
hydrocarbons with benzene up to 32,000 ppb, 1,2-DCA and ethylene dibromide(EDB)were detected
in the groundwater from well MW-1. The groundwater from well
of benzene,toluene and xylenes. The MW-3 contained]ower concentrations ;
xy groundwater from wells MW-2 and MW-3 contained 1,2-DCA
Up to 20 ppb. The groundwater collected on September 1989 from well MW-2 contained benzene at
just above the detection Limit of 0.1 ppb. Fuel hydrocarbons were not detected in the groundwater from
well MW-4.
Groundwater elevations, based on depth-to-water measurements taken by WGR staff on 29
_ September 1989, indicate a south to inthwest groundwater flow direction. There are 7 California
Department of Water Resources registered water wells and one abandoned gas well within aone-half
mile radius of the site.
Fr
V
066RIN09
.pet.
111111511"P!111111
