Soil samples were collected and analyzed from beneath the
underground storage tanks (USTs) removed on August 24, 1998. Analytical
results were positive for gasoline constituents and oxygenates. An Unauthorized
Release Report was completed and filed on August 28, 1998, by Chevron
Products Company.
On August 31, 1998, PHS/EHD placed the site in the Local Oversight Program
(LOP) and a Notice Of Responsibility was sent to the Responsible Parties.
PHS/EHD is the lead agency providing the oversight of the investigation and
cleanup of releases from USTs under contract with the California State Water
Resources Control Board to conduct a UST corrective action program.
On August 31, 1998, your consultant, Gettler-Ryan Incorporated, under a work
plan dated July 16, 1998, performed resampling of the UST area. Soil results
from samples collected at 22.5 feet below ground surface evidenced high
concentrations of gasoline and gasoline oxygenate additives: 2300000 ppb TPH-
gas, 4100 ppb Benzene, 2300 ppb Toluene, 79000 ppb Ethyl Benzene, 400000
ppb Xylene, 330000 ppb MTBE, 5000 ppb ETBE, and 10000 ppb TAME. To
date this source remains in place and has not been remediated.
A groundwater investigation which includes installation of nine monitoring wells
has begun, but the full extent of the MTBE contamination (lateral and vertical
delineation) has not been determined.
PHS/EHD met with the California Regional Water Control Board Central Valley
Region (CRWQCB) on March 22, 2000 to review site specific information
associated which the investigation and the extent of the on site and off site
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
