Chevron discharges treated
groundwater at the subject site under City of Lodi (City) Wastewater Discharge Permit #328. This
report presents data collected between March 18, and April 15, 2003.
GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM
Extraction and treatment of groundwater was initiated on July 3, 2000. The GWET system consists
of extraction wells EX -1, EX -2, and EX -3 (Figure 2). These wells are equipped with submersible
pumps connected by mechanical piping to a series of granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels
through which groundwater passes prior to discharge to the industrial sewer. A treatment system
schematic is shown on Figure 3.
To assess the effectiveness of the GWET system, water samples are collected twice monthly at four
locations, including the influent port prior to the first GAC vessel (INFL), between the first and second
GAC vessels (MID -1), between the second and third GAC vessels (MID -2), and prior to discharge
(EFFL) to the industrial sewer. The samples collected are analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes (BTEX), methyl tertiary butyl
ether (MtBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethanol, methanol, ethylene dibromide (EDB), and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2 DCA). Samples for this reporting period were collected on April 1 and 15,
2003. Current and historical analytical results are presented as Table 1. Maximum concentrations
of detected constituents during this reporting period are presented below.
Sampling
Maximum Constituent Concentration (pg/1)
Port
March 18 throu h April 15, 2003
MtBE
TBA
EtBE TAME
Ethanol
Methanol
(NFL
16.
X10.
<2. <2.
X100.
<400,
MID -1
¢2.
X10.
c2. 2.
<100.
<400.
MID -2
<2.
X10.
<2. <2.
X100.
X400.
EFFL
c2.
X10.
c2. c2.
<100.
¢400.
Explanations:
< indicates the constituent was not
present at or above the method re ortinlimit shown
The GWET system treated and discharged a total of 393,748 gallons of groundwater (Table 2)
during the reporting period.
