Chevron Products Company 6
1~ormer Chevron Station #9-5775 01 West Kettleman Lane i California Qctober 9, 2W
• RWQCB. The proposed remedial system included an oxygen diffusion system
around the southwest perimeter of the site (SECOR, Addendum to April 7 and
27, 2000, Work Plan for Remedial Well Installation and Additional Site
Assessment, dated April 27 and 28, 2000.)
• May 12, 2000 -- Work plan for the installation of interim remedial groundwater
and vapor extraction systems was submitted.
• May 19, 2000 — The RWQCB approved the installation of monitoring wells
proposed in the April 27, 2000 work plan, but did not approve the installation of
the proposed remedial wells also proposed in the April 27, 2000 work plan, nor
the oxygen diffusion remedial system proposed in the April 28, 2000 work plan.
• May 29, 2000 (awaiting G -R) — The RWQCB acknowledged the installation of
the interim remedial groundwater and vapor extraction systems by Gettler-Ryan
proposed in the May 12, 2000 work plan.
• June 5, 2000 — Construction of the interim remedial groundwater and vapor
extraction systems was initiated by Getticr-Ryan.
• June 2000 — Marty Hartzell of the RWQCB and Roger Hoffmore of SECOR
discussed the May 19, 2000 letter (not approving the installation of proposed
remedial wells). The possible use of the proposed wells as groundwater
• extraction wells was proposed by Mr. Hoffmore. Mr. Hartzell stated that
pumping from wells other than EX -1 was not approved as such pumping might
result in the expansion of the existing plume. Mr. Hartzell agreed that if full-
time pumping from well EX -1 (commenced on July 3, 2000) did not
demonstrate control of the plume, pumping from other wells, particularly in the
direction of the municipal well, would likely become necessary.
L r
• June 14 to July 7, 2000 — Ten groundwater monitoring wells (MW -5B, MW -8B,
MW- IOA and B, MW -11A and B, MW -12A and B, MW -13, and MW -14) were
drilled and installed at the site by Cascade Drilling. (Monitoring wells MW -13
and MW -14 were approved for installation by SJCEHD on June 20, 2000).
(Access agreement for the installation of wells MW -I OA and B was received on
June 27, 2000). Monitoring wells MW -5B, MW -8B, MW -10B, MW -11B, and
MW -12B were drilled and completed to approximately 90 feet bgs. Monitoring
wells MW- IOA, MW -1 IA, MW -12A, MW -13, and MW -14 were drilled and
completed to approximately 65 feet bgs.
• On July 3, 2000 — The continuous operation of the interim soil vapor extraction
(SVE) and ground water extraction (GWE) remediation systems was initiated at
the site, approximately 2-112 months after issuance of the C&A Order by the
RWQCB.
077.41991.043/October 9, 2000.doc
