i
Soil Sampling Report- Former Chevron Service Station #l9-5775
November 10, 1998
Gasoline UST Pit Overexcavation and Soil Sampling
Based upon the analytical results of the initial soil samples and field observations, GR returned to the site
on August 31, 1998, in order to collect confirming soil samples following additional excavation ui the
former gasoline tank pit Additional excavation was performed by Musco in the vicinity of sample B1(16)
over an area of 1 I feet by 8 feet, and to a depth of approximately 22 5 feet bgs Mr Harlin Knoll of the
SJCEHD was present during overexcavation and sampling activities Two additional soil samples, labeled
B1(22 5) and SWB1(18 5), were collected from the bottom and the east sidewall of the overexcavated area
at depths of approximately 22 5 feet and 18 5 feet bgs, respectively Groundwater was not encountered
during overexcavation activities Prior to backfilling the gasoline UST pit, an 8 -inch diameter PVC casing
was placed in the vicinity of soil sample B 1(22 5) to facilitate further investigation
Stockpile Sampling
On August 24, 1998, GR personnel collected ten discrete soil samples (SPI through SP 10), from
approximately 260 cubic yards of soil excavated from the former gasoline UST pit, one soil sample (SPP)
from approximately 13 cubic yards of soil excavated from the former product piping trenches, and one
composite soil sample (consisted of two grab samples SPW1 and SPW2) from approximately 27 cubic
yards of soil excavated from the former waste oil UST pit In addition, one composite soil sample (SPFT)
was collected from approximately 45 cubic yards of soil overexcavated from the former gasoline tank pit in
the vicinity of sample B1(14 5) Mr Trevena of SJCEHD was present during stockpile sampling activities
On August 31, 1998, per the direction of Mr Knoll of the SJCEHD, two soil samples SPI -RS and SP3-RS
were collected from previous soil sample locations SPI and SP2, respectively One additional stockpile
soil sample SPFT was collected from approximately 55 cubic yards of soil overexcavated from the former
gasoline tank pit in the vicinity of samples B1(16) and B 1(22 5) The analytical results for all stockpile
soil samples were within limits acceptable to the landfill Analytical results are summanzed in Table I
SOIL DISPOSAL
With the approval of SJCEHD, approximately 210 cubic yards of pea gravel and sand backfill (samples
SP2, and SP4 through SP 10) from the former gasoline UST pit, and approximately 13 cubic yards of soil
(sample SPP) from the former product piping trenches Nvere reused as backfill at the site SJCEHD also
gave approval for approximately 50 cubic yards of backfill material from the gasoline UST pit (samples
SP1 -RS and SP3-RS) to be spread at the site On September 21, 1998, Allwaste Transportation and
Remediation Inc (Allwaste) of San Martin, California, transported 108 cubic yards of soil removed during
former waste oil UST pit excavation (sample SPW1,2) and former gasoline UST pit overexcavation
activities (samples SPFT and SPFT-2) to the BFI landfill in Livermore, California, for disposal
346408 02
