6ETTLER-RYAN INC. r <br />August 31, 2000 <br />Mr Richard C Prima, Jr <br />City of Lodi Public Works Director <br />221 W Pine Street <br />Lodi, CA 95240 <br />Subject: Accidental Discharge Report, Wastewater Discharge Permit 0295, Former Chevron <br />Station #9-5775,301 West Kettleman Lane, Lodi, CA. <br />Mr Prima <br />Gettler-Ryan Inc (GR) has been contracted by Chevron Products Company (Chevron) to operate and <br />maintain the groundwater system (GWS) installed at the subject site GR prepared this report to document <br />an unintentional discharge of impacted water from the GWS to the City of Lodi industrial sewer (Permit <br />#295) <br />Extraction and treatment of groundwater at the subJect site was initiated on July 3, 2000 The GWS extracts <br />• impacted groundwater from well EX -1 Extracted groundwater is routed through a particulate filter, then <br />three 2,000 -pound liquid phase activated carbon vessels plumbed in series Locations of the treatment <br />system compound and well EX -1 are shown on Figure 2 A treatment system schematic is shown on <br />Figure 3 <br />Carbon Change Out <br />Due to detection of 20 2 parts per million (ppm) of methyl tent -butyl ether (MtBE) in the sample collected <br />August 26, 2000, from Midpoint I (between the first and the second carbon vessels), GR contracted with US <br />Filter/Westates to change out the carbon in the first carbon vessel US Filter/Westates changed this carbon <br />on Monday, August, 7, 2000 However, the GWS was sampled again on August 3, 2000, prior to carbon <br />change out Results of this second sample set were not received from the laboratory prior to carbon change <br />out Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in sample Midpoint 1 <br />Hydrocarbons in Effluent Sample <br />The August 16, 2000, sample results were received from Sequoia Analytical on August 18, 2000 Low <br />concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were present in all four of the samples (Influent, Midpoint 1, <br />Midpoint 2, and Effluent), and the MtBE concentration in the influent sample was initially reported at 13,400 <br />ppb Sequoia's report indicated that the chromatogram patterns for the Effluent, Midpoint 2 and Midpoint 1 <br />samples indicated weathered gasoline C-6 to C-12, and the chromatogram for the influent sample indicated <br />unidentified hydrocarbons C6 -C8 These data appeared suspect because the influent MtBE concentrations <br />were abnormally low compared to previous results Also, the carbon in one of the vessels had Just been <br />Is 346408 07 <br />6747 Sierra Court, Suite J 9 Dublin, California 94568 • ( 9 2 5 ) 551-7555 <br />
