1 <br /> NELSON READY- MIX <br /> 1040 Moffat Boulevard, Ripon, California <br /> rReport of Contaminated Soils Excavation b <br /> Laboratory Sampling %f� <br /> e� <br /> )eti '�. <br /> ' 1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICATION <br /> M J Kloberdanz & Associates witnessed the completion of the excavation of soil <br /> ' contaminated by diesel fuel at the Nelson Concrete Plant, from the site of an old <br /> underground storage tank on the 14`h of June 1999 The excavation was begun on June <br /> 10, 1999 and was completed by 1 30 PM on June 14'h The work was completed by <br /> SEMCO, under the direction of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> represented by Ronald Rowe Wright Environmental Services, Inc provided the Work <br /> i <br /> Plan <br /> t <br /> 1.1 Site History <br /> ' This site had been identified as contaminated by San Joaquin County and the <br /> objective the excavation was to remove the bulk of the contamination before the <br /> ' Cal Trans was to begin construction of new freeway access ramps for Jack Tone <br /> Road Since no MTBE was previously found at the site and the concentrations of <br /> benzene and toluene, etc were low, the Public Health Service made the decision to <br /> ' remove the core of the contamination only Part of the plume had migrated to the <br /> north, beneath Highway 99 Removal of this contamination was cost prohibitive <br /> ' due to the restrictions involved in excavating within a State Highway right-of-way <br /> ' 2.0 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> The excavation reached the planned depth of 17 to 18 feet below grade surface <br /> ' Groundwater was encountered at about 13 feet in depth and the excavation was shored <br /> and de-watered in order to continue digging to the final depth The location (Figure 2) <br /> was chosen in order to remove the core of the underground contamination without <br /> impinging upon the Cal Trans right-of-way <br />
