R F C V E D <br />jk-'� �Ui/ <br />ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH <br />C'_Rt\RTMENT <br />DEFINITION OF TERMS <br />BxS - Bell (female) x spigot (male) tapered joint. <br />Bond Line - Area where two surfaces are bonded together with <br />adhesive. <br />Closed Secondary Containment Piping System - A secondary <br />piping system with ends normally closed at the tank and sump <br />with a minimum rated pressure of 50 psig (.350 MPa). <br />Cocked Joint - Appearance of BxS joint that is improperly <br />aligned. <br />Cool Weather Conditions - Below 65°F (18" C). <br />Cure Time - Time for a joint to completely cure after it is bond- <br />ed. <br />Damaged Pipe - Pipe that has been affected by excessive im- <br />pact, external or bending loads. <br />Glue Line - See bond line. <br />Improperly Cured Joint - Joint that is not cured due to poor <br />adhesive mixing or inadequate heating in cool weather <br />Joint Backout - A spigot that backs out of a bell due to incom- <br />plete lock up or movement at the other end of the pipe. <br />Lock Up - Spigot is fully engaged with the bell until there is <br />resistance to pivot action in the joint. <br />Machined Surface - Area of pipe or fitting that is machined to <br />remove the surface gloss so that it may be bonded. <br />Matched Taper - The matching tapers on a BxS or T.A.B. joint. <br />Mechanical Locking - See lock up. <br />Open Secondary Containment Piping System - A secondary <br />piping system with ends normally open at the sump and a <br />minimum rated pressure of 5 psig (0.035 MPa). <br />74 <br />
