v <br /> A S S O C I A T E S I N C <br /> Discoloration of soil and a petroleum hydrocarbon odor were noted in the field. After the tanks <br /> were removed,the areas of the former tanks were backfilled. <br /> On April 23, 1998, an ATC geologist supervised the advancement of six soil borings to 21 feet <br /> below ground surface (bgs). Soil borings SB 1, SB2, and SB4 were placed in the vicinity of the <br /> former U.STs,,soil boring SB3 was placed in the vicinity of the former dispenser, and soil borings <br /> SBS and SB6 were placed at the southern edge of the former excavation area. A site plan with <br /> soil boring locations is shown on Figure 2. Soil samples and grab groundwater samples were <br /> collected from each boring. Analytical results indicated that the soil samples and the groundwater <br /> sample from boring SB6 contained detectable -concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. The <br /> work is summarized in ATC's Summary Report of Subsurface Investigation, dated June 17, 1998. <br /> On September 21, 1998, an ATC geologist supervised the advancement of five soil borings to <br /> depths ranging from 5 to 31 feet below ground surface (bgs). Soil borings SB7 through SB11 <br /> were placed south and east of former boring SB6 and contained detectable concentrations of <br /> g petroleum hydrocarbons. Analytical results of soil samples indicated the presence of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons. One groundwater sample was collected from each boring at the depth <br /> groundwater was first encountered. Groundwater samples indicated the presence of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons. Results are summarized in ATC's Summary Report of Additional Subsurface <br /> Investigation, dated November 4, 1998. <br /> On January 27, 1999, an ATC geologist supervised the advancement of two soil borings, MW1 <br /> and MW3, to 35 feet bgs-and one continuous core soil boring, MW2, to 45 feet bgs. Analytical <br /> results for the soil samples indicated the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in boring MW2 <br /> located in the center of the former UST location. The groundwater wells were developed and <br /> sampled and the groundwater samples from wells MW-1 and MW2 contained detectable <br /> concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. Results are summarized in ATC's Summary Report of <br /> Additional Subsurface Investigation, dated April 7, 1999. <br /> SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Planninz and-Permits <br /> ATC has completed the well installation permit application for the proposed subsurface <br /> investigation. The permit application is attached to this workplan. ATC will also schedule field <br /> personnel and, equipment, notify Underground Services Alert to locate underground utilities as <br /> required, and perform any other necessary field preparation and job start-up activities. <br /> Installation of Soil Borings and Monitorine Wells <br /> Two soil borings will be advanced using a hollow stem auger equipped drill rig to depths of <br /> E approximately 35 feet bgs. The soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals or significant <br /> changes in lithology. Drilling will be conducted by a State licensed (C57) drilling company.
