Sep 18 '98 1 :25 No .001 P.03
i
A 3 8 Q C I A r E s 1 M C .
L
Ii
On April 23, 1998, an ATC geologist supervised the advancem1ern of six soil borings
below ground surface 095). Soil borings SB 1, SB2, and SB4 were placed in the vicinity of*tile
former USTs, soil boring SB3 was placed in the vicinity of the former dispenser, and soil borings
SBS and SB6 were placed at the southern edge of the former eicCavation arca. A site pian with
soil boring locations is shown on Figure 2. Soil samples
through 5B6 at five-foot intervals in acetate samplitbwere collected from borings SBI
collected from each boringr ues andgrab groundwater samples were
. Analytical results indicated that the selected soil samples and the grab
groundwater sample from boring SB6 contained detectable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons. The work is summarized in ATC's SummaryRegi of Subsurface Investigation,
dated June 17, 1998.
SCOPE OF WORK
P1'hand Permits,
ATC will perform this scope of work under the existing soil borinig permit for the site. The permit
application is attached to this workplan. ATC will also schedule field personnel and equipment,
notify Underground Service Alert to locate underground utilities as required, and perform any
other necessary field preparation and job start-up activities,
dvancemen f it Borinig
To try and evaluate the extent of impacted soil and groundwater in the vicinity of boring SB6, a
minimum of three soil borings will be advanced to approximately 30 feet bgs. The proposed
borings will be advanced east and south of boring SB6 to try and.fully delineate the lateral extent
of impacted soil and groundwater. The estimated groundwater flow direction is north-northeast.
If field conditions indicate that these borings are impacted then ATC will step out and advance
additional borings. Proposed boring locations are shown on Figure 2.
The borings will be advanced using truck mounted Geoprobe@ narrow diameter, direct push
technology. Drilling will be conducted by a State-licensed (CS7) drilling company. A field
geologist will be present to log all soil samples. Descriptions'of soil types encountered and
sample collection intervals wiU be recorded on boring logs. Soil samples will be collected at five
foot intervals or estimated changes in lithology, field screened with a Photoionizativn Detection
(PID) meter, and an estimated two soil samples from each of the, borings will be submitted for
laboratory analysis. Soil sample selection will be based on;}PID measurements and field
observations(i.e. odor and soil discoloration).
One groundwater sample will be collected from each boring at'the depth groundwater is first
encountered, anticipated to be approximately 20 feet bgs.
