Pressed Methods of Treatment for Contaminated Groundwater
With presence of MTBE the choices for contaminated ground water cleanup are limited. The most
• widely used method in this area is removal by Activated Carbon Filter.Activated Carbon Filter will also
absorb Benzene and the compounds of gasoline. The pump test conducted by ACT (see Appendix B)
proved that the groundwater on this site can be cleaned up with the use of Activated Carbon Filtration
to proposed levels. This method is also now in use about two miles east of this site for cleanup of a large
gasoline with MTBE spill. The EPA is conducting experiments in bioremediation as a cleanup method
for MTBE, but there is no conclusive method recommended at this date.
Activated Carbon Filtration presents the best fit for this site. US Filter proposes that three ASC-2000
filters be connected in series and fed with a pump suitable to produce up to 45 psi. The existing
extraction well is equipped with a 4" conduit connected to the underground equipment enclosure. There
is power to the equipment enclosure to operate all the equipment on a continuous basis.
Filtered water disposal is the most pressing problem with is proposal. The City of Lodi will not allow any
reclaimed water to be dischargedinto the sanitary sewer. The City will allow discharge into the industrial
sewer, which is located about 200 feet to the south of the equipment enclosure in the eastbound lane of
Kettleman Lane. Construction of a discharge line from the equipment enclosure to the industrial sewer
would require jacking a 1" discharge line from the enclosure to the manhole (see Fig. 3 below).
aw E
+ PROPOSED PIPE JAOKMG OF -DISCHARGE LIN
Y Hg oi0 P
f 'STAPB=9kAM
-TPlig■5 P
Nol18TRIAL SEWER MANHOLE
SUNWEST UOUIORS PLOT PLAN
_ _ =
-CONCENTRATION CONTOIJRS FOR TPHg As OF W11102
Fig. 3
lei
4
