(Quorum), has prepared this
Work Plan for observing excavation of hydrocarbon-bearing soil at the subject site. The site
is on the northwest corner of the intersection of East Acampo Road and Highway 99
Frontage Road in Acampo, California. The location is shown on the Site Vicinity Map,
Plate 1. The approximate configuration of site facilities is 8epicted on the Generalized Site
;I
Plan, Plate 2.
Background
A geologist from Quorum was at the site on June 19', 1992, to observe Sacramento
Equipment Maintenance Company(SEMC)remove three 811000-gallon underground gasoline
storage tanks. Mr. Eric Trevina of the San Joaquin CountyLocal Health District (SJCLHD) k
was at the site during tank removal. The tanks were in generally good condition with no
apparent holes. Following tank removal, our geologist collected two soil samples from
beneath each tank for a total of six below-tank samplegIn addition, at Mr. Trevina's
request, our geologist collected five discrete soil samples from two soil stockpiles; one
sample (S-0619-1) was collected from a soil stockpile containing approximately 25 cubic
yards, and four samples (S-0619-2 through -5) were collected from an approximate 100-
cubic-yard stockpile. The stockpiles consisted of soil that had been excavated from around
the tanks prior to removal...The locations and-designations of soil samples collected during
tank,removaf are shown-on-Plate 2.
Soil samples were submitted to Coast-to-Coast Analytical Laboratory of Goleta, California
(California Hazardous Waste Testing Laboratory Certif'i'cate No. 1204). Samples were
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline :(TPHg) and benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers (BTEX) using mo.dified Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Method 8260; for ethylene dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane (EDC)
using EPA Method 8240; and for total lead using EPA Method 7420. Results of chemical
analyses of soil samples collected during tank removal are shown in Table 1, Results of
Chemical Analyses of Soil Samples. TPHg was detected! in two of six samples collected
3050 FILE CIRCLE • SUITE 104 SACRAMENTO, CA 95877 - TEL: 916.363.1900 FAX: 916.363.4912
