(URSGWC)is pleased to present this workplan for a soil and groundwater
investigation at the California Highway Patrol (CHP) facility located at 3330 North Ad Art Road in Stockton,
t California (Site). This workplan has been prepared on behalf of the State of California—Real Estate Services
Division under Contract No. 3014214. The following.pages present the background and proposed scope of work.
BACKGROUND
A single-walled gasoline fuel underground storage tank(UST) is located at the Site. A soil investigation was
conducted by Alton Geosciences in March 1999 to comply with UST upgrading requirements. The investigation
included drilling and sampling four soil.borings. The borings:were-extended to approximately 25 feet below
ground surface(bgs). One soil sample was collected at 25 feet bgs from each boring and submitted for laboratory
analyses of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes
(BTEX); and methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE). The analytical results reported concentrations of MTBE in two
soil samples(B2 and B4)at concentrations of 0.008 and 0.007 milligrams per kilogram. TPH-G and BTEX were
not detected in any of the four samples. Based on these analytical results, the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division(SJCEHD)requested that a soil and groundwater investigation be conducted at the Site.
SCOPE OF WORK
URSGWC is proposing the installation of four•borings at the Site to assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil
contamination and the presence or absence of groundwater contamination. This workplan includes discussion of
permitting, drilling and sample collection, and report preparation. A copy of the URSGWC Health and Safety
plan will be present on-site during the drilling and sampling activities.
Permitting
SJCEHD requires that permits be obtained prior to the installation of soil borings. URSGWC will submit the
appropriate permit application with fees to the SJCEHD prior to conducting field activities.
1:114214103_Stockton\W orkplan.doc
