I ,
23 September 2008
AGE-NC Project No.07-1537
date, time, and sampler's initials, then stored on ice and transported under chain of custody to Cal
Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL), a State of California Department of Public Health
(CDPH)-certified analytical laboratory in Paramount, California. Samples were analyzed for:
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
• BTEX, DIPE, ETBE, MTBE, TAME, TBA, EDB, 1,2-DCA, methanol, and ethanol in
accordance with EPA Method 8260.
All sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with water prior to each
sampling run to minimize cross-contamination.
Soil sample duplicates were extruded into plastic bags, visually classified in accordance with the
USCS and recorded on the boring log. Additionally, soil samples were field-screened for the
presence of VOCs using an OVM; concentration readings were recorded on the boring log.Boring
logs are included in Appendix C.
A grab ground water sample was collected from the boring using a temporary PVC screen. A
Geoprobe push-driven water sampling device was advanced two to three feet into the water bearing
zone. Samples were collected using a Geoprobe water sampling assembly fitted with a new one-half
inch 0.010-inch slotted temporary well screen. Each ground water sample was extracted using
inertial action by lowering Teflon tubing through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen
section. Sufficient sample was collected to fill four 40-m1 EPA-approved volatile organic analysis
(VOA)vials and one 1-liter amber glass container. Ground water sample containers were labeled
with soil boring designation, date, time, and samplers initials and then placed in a chilled container
and transported under chain of custody to CTEL for analysis of the constituents listed above.
2.4. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to use,all sampling tools for sample collection were thoroughly rinsed with clean water after
being washed with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods were cleaned prior to advancement at
each probe boring location.
2.5. BOREHOLE ABANDONMENT
Following soil boring activities, each borehole was permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration
of contaminants. Under EHD oversight, boreholes were backfilled with cement slurry from total
depth to surface grade.
Advanced GeoEvironmental,Inc.
