Samplings of
the monitoringwells were conducted in July 2003,and March and)unc 2004. San Joaquin Count Groundwater
nd second uart
Environmental Health Department(EHD)has received and reviewed the first a ,2 '
E F
I'F Monitoring Reports of 2004,and Result ofAdditional Site In
dated October 7,2003 prepared by Horizon
` Environmental Inc. (Horizon).
Analytical results of the groundwater samples from the highest impacted well i\-ff-1 for all three above-
, mentioned sampling events exceeded INlaximum Contaminant Levels for drinking water esrablished by
California Department of Health Services for benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene,xylenes,1,2-dicholoroethane
(1,2-DCA),and 1,2,-dibromoethane(EDB). Analytical results of the groundwater samples from the latest
sampling quarterune 2004)were 130,000 micrograms per liter(ug/1)of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
were 0 ug/1 of ethyl-benzene,12,000
l of
gasoline(I"PH-g),12,000 ug/l of benzene,24,000 ug/1 of toluene,2,30
total xylenes,960 ug/1 of 1,2-DCA and 550 ug/1 of EDB. Results of groundwater samples from;\Its-3 wwe
74 ug/1 of TPH g and 19 ug/1 of 1,2-DCA,and from \M,`-4 were 160 ug/1 of TPH-g and'1.6 ug/1 of 1,2-DCA.
Depth to groundwater was reported as approximateiv 41 feet bsg,and groundwater
the groundwater direction
edwat Foflo a last
l-2003
contrast to u gr
two quarters was calculated to be generally eastward,m ] }
direction was initially calculated as northward.
The deepest soil samples collected at 55 feet below surface grade (bsg) from 1\,I%V-1 were 340 milligrams per
kilogram (mg/kg)of TPH-g and 0.46 mg/kg of benzene;=d soil samples collected at 35 feet bsg were 11,000
mg/kg of TPH-g and 2.6 mg/kg of benzene. Results of soil samples from\Tt1-2 to I , -4 were all non-detect.
Analytical results of the soil physical characteristic for the soil sample at 35 feet bsg were 6.71E-7 centimeters
per sec (cm/sec)in permeability, and for soil samples from below groundwater table at 49 feet bsg and 55 feet
bsg were 2.35E-7 cm/sec and 535E-7 cm/sec,respectively.
Additional work is required to characterize.the extent and concentration of the contamination at this site.
Submit a work plan to EHD that will define the vertical and horizontal extent of the contamination in both soil
and groundwater by September 20,2004.
