The:;investigation included installation- and sampling of one on-
site monitoring well .
i
No benzene, toluene or xylenes were detected in the ground water sample
obtained from this monitoring well . However, total petroleum hydrocarbons
(TPH) were detected at 32 parts per billion. While this level of
contamination does not appear to pose a serious concern, additional
investigation will be necessary to verify that ground. water beneath the site
has not been significantly impacted..
The additional investigation should be designed to determine the hydraulic
gradient at this site and the possible extent of hydrocarbon contamination.
k By 8 December 1989, please submit a work plan forlcompleting this
investigation. We have enclosed a copy of our guidance document which
includes the recommended reporting requirements. ItThe work plan should be
designed to provide all the information necessaryjfor preparing a complete
Problem Assessment Report. If additional investigation confirms that only low
levels of TPH are present, quarterly ground water;monitoring to detect any
migration of contaminants may be appropriate.
If you have any questions, please call me at (91 6) 361=5731 .
{ I G / V Vim``r" ,.•i _. -
THOMAS D.PELTIER
Engineering Geologist
TDP/tdp
Enclosure
cc:vtaurie Cotulla, San Joaquin County Department1Iof Public Health Services,
Stockton
Kayo Ookken, Versar, Inc. , Sacramento
