PUBLrC HEALTH SERTC
106: KHANNA Nt.l:.
P.O- Box 2009 a (1601 East Hazelton Avenue) • Stockton, Califnrni? 95201
(209) 468-34M
CLINT ROGERS
CHEVRON USA A 2b
P 0 BOX 5004
SAN RAMON CA 94583-0804
RE: Ulycess Williams Property SITE CODE: 9034
Former Chevron #9-5075
2400 Airport Way
Stockton, CA
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has reviewed the
work and reports completed by Versar, Inc. and Groundwater Technology, Inc. (GTI) on the above listed
site. The latest report was prepared by GTI on February 22, 1991, and titled "Site Assessment Report".
To date the following activities and results have been reported. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline were detected at 32 parts per billion (ppb) in the water sample collected from monitoring well
#1 on September 6, 1989. In November 1990 two additional monitoring wells were installed
(monitoring wells #2 and #3). In January 1991 monitoring well #4 was installed. These wells were
surveyed, water level measurements were taken and the groundwater gradient was determined to be to
the northeast. Monitoring wells #1, #2 and #3 were sampled on December 4, 1990. Monitoring well
#4 was sampled January 25, 1991. Contamination was not detected in any of those water samples.
Further investigation of this site is warranted. Water level measurements should be taken to confirm the
northeast gradient. If the gradient is confirmed to be to the northeast the site does not have a
downgradient monitoring well. The placement of the downgradient well should be determined by the
distance the contamination would have moved since the underground tanks were removed in 1977.
Once the existence of a downgradient well has been established a minimum of two rounds of samples at
least 30 days apart with no detection of contaminants would be required to consider the site for closure.
A"Chain of Custody" for the water sample obtained from monitoring well #4 was not included in the
February 1991 report. In addition a survey of wells within 2000 feet of the site has not been Conducted.
Pursuant to Section 2652 (d) of the Underground Storage Tank Regulations (California Code of
Regulations, Title 23, Chapter 16) quarterly monitoring reports are to be submitted to PHS/EHD and
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board until the investigation and cleanup of the site is
deemed adequate. The above listed information should be submitted in your next quarterly report which
should be completed by July 1, 1992.
If you have any questions contact Margaret Lagorio, Senior RENS, at (209) 468-3449.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health O 1&r j
"ECEIVED
rie A.
