yFY
I
2. 0 DESCRIPTION OF rACILITY
A partial site plan of the facility is presented in :icure 2-
1 . Two 5, 000 gallon undercrcund storage tanks were excavated
- and removed on April 2, 1987 after hydrostatic testing
suggested tank leakage. The tanks were appzoximately 30 years
a, old, constructed of steel and were resting 12 feet ( ft ) below
the sureace. Neither tank was in contact with ground water.
The diameter of each tank was 8 ft and estimated to be between
12 and 15 ft long. The orientation of the tanks was east-
west, end to end, with a 3 ft separation existing retween
` them.
r°x The location of the tanks was approximately 50 ft south of the
baking facility ' s main building. A concrete pad containing
1,. gasoline pumps is present directly north of the excavation
site. The pumps are used to dispense gasoline from an acti•,Q
underground gasoline tank located between the building and
excavation site. The active tank is located to the northeast
of the excavated tank location. The entire area surrounding
the former tank location is paved with asphalt, and following
removal operations, the excavation site was similarly repaved
€1i with asphalt. An open field is located anproximately 1C0 ft
south of the former tank site.
i
.9 Of the two underground tanks, the west tank containced gasoline
and was operable through 1966. Howe7er, the east tank, which

11 also
previously contained gasoline, had been decommissioned
and subsequently filled with sand. =he fill }ubes were
1a
located in the center of the tank (Anheuser-Busch, personal
communication ) .
Testing other than inventory reconciliaCion had not been done
prior to December, 1986. Until that time, the presence of a
leak had not been indicated. Hc;weve in accordance with new
K3
2-1
