File No 2070-2
23 March 1994
Page 2
' Due to the limited quantity of groundwater in monitoring wells MW-6 and MW-8, temperature,
conductivity and pH readings were not obtained for these wells Monitoring well MW-6 was purged
of approximately 2 0 gallons of groundwater while monitoring well MW-8 was purged of
' approximately 5 0 gallons of groundwater The purged groundwater was contained in a 55-gallon
drum and stored on the site
Following completion of the well purging, the wells were allowed to recharge Upon adequate
recharge, each well was sampled via a discrete, disposable bailer The groundwater samples were
placed in sterile containers, stored on ice and transported to the analytical laboratories of Curtis &
' Tompkins in Berkeley Laboratory analyses were conducted for the following parameters
• total petroleum hydrocarbons (method 8015 modified),
• "BTEX" (EPA method 602),
• total lead (EPA method 7421)
4 0 Field Data and Site Determinations
' The local flow direction and gradient of the groundwater for the fourth quarter 1993 was calculated
based on the static groundwater elevations measured in monitoring wells MW-1, MW-3 and MW-6
' The local flow direction of the groundwater for the fourth quarter 1993 was determined to be toward
the northeast with a gradient of 0 0019 rciri (see Figure 2) This is consistent with the east/northeast
flow directions calculated for prior samplings
While obtaining the groundwater samples, particular attention was paid to whether any noticeable
petroleum hydrocarbon odor, discoloration or floating product was evident in the wells The
following was noted during our sampling
The groundwater sample collected from monitoring well MW-1 had a strong petroleum
' hydrocarbon odor and was discolored gray No floating product was noted
• The groundwater in monitoring well MW-2 had a moderate petroleum hydrocarbon odor
' No discoloration or floating product was noted There was insufficient water in monitoring
well MW-2 to collect a sample
' • The groundwater in monitoring well MW-3 had no noticeable odor, discoloration or
floating product There was insufficient water in monitoring well MW-3 to collect a
sample
• Monitoring well MW-4 was dry at the time of our sampling
• Monitoring well MW-5 was dry at the time of our sampling
• The groundwater sample collected from monitoring well MW-6 had no noticeable odor,
discoloration or floating product
• Monitoring well MW-7 was dry at the time of our sampling
ANDERSON
CONSULTING
I GROUP
