r
Page 3
Ms Margaret Lagono I All
r March 23, 1995
An approximately 1,000 -foot -long stormwater drainage ditch extends westerly
from the facility to an intermittent, south -flowing drainage canal. This canal
empties into Duck Creek, which is located about 900 feet south of the plant
REMEDIAL ALTERNATIVES
Alternatives for the cleanup of gasoline -impacted groundwater to regulatory
required cleanup levels include groundwater extraction and treatment (or
discharge), in-situ bioremediation, and air sparging with soil vapor extraction
Regulatory Cleanup Levels
Based on the California State Water Resources Control Board Resolution #92-49
under the Water Code section #13304, cleanup of impacted groundwater at this
site is to background conditions Clean up to this stringent requirement will require
an aggressive method of remediation, which Rainbo and Burlington will endeavor
to perform
The County should be aware that clean up to this standard is often impractical due
to unforeseen site conditions, even when utilizing the most effective and current
forms of remedial technologies If active remediation at the site results in
indications that "non-detectable" hydrocarbon concentrations in groundwater are
` unobtainable and that relatively low asymptotic levels can not be effectively
reduced, then Rambo (and Burlington) will consult with the County to evaluate
future actions including seeking case closure for this facility
Groundwater Eitraction And Treatment
Groundwater extraction involves the removal or pumping of impacted
- `ground"water frbm extraction well`s The ektracted water is processed through a
' treatment system and then re -infected into the aquifer or discharged into the City
of Stockton sanitary sewer system
Groundwater would be extracted from up to 3 recovery wells situated
downgradient to the area of impact The precise, number and spacing of the
extraction wells would depend on information obtained from a groundwater pump
test Recovery wells would be equipped with an electric submersible pump
operated by level controls designed to shut down should a malfunction occur
' I
I I
7 I I
II
I II
