0 <br />10 Groundwater Sampling <br />f •1 11 yyY"l� F ) � v <br />sYY�k� <br />C � l <br />Sampled — <br />Interval , <br />.• <br />• EGG <br />A push -type groundwater sampler with a <br />sealed screen section Is used to collect <br />discrete groundwater samples, Both 2 <br />Inch and 1 314 inch diameter samplers are <br />used depending on the soil type and <br />density The smaller sampler can <br />generally be pushed to greater depths <br />The groundwater samplers have a <br />retrievable stainless steel screen This <br />allows for multiple depth groundwater <br />sampling using the same penetration hole <br />If slow recharge occurs or longer term <br />monitoring is required, 3/4 inch PVC well <br />points can be installed using the same <br />samplers <br />The groundwater sampler is pushed in a <br />closed poslton to the desired sampling <br />interval The sampler push rod is then <br />retracted exposing the inlet screen <br />Groundwater flows hydrostatically from <br />the formation Into the inlet screen <br />For floating layer hydrocarbons, a small <br />diameter bailer (3/4 inch or 112 Inch) Is <br />lowered through the hollow push rods, Into <br />the screen section for sample collection <br />For sampling of larger volume, nonvolatile <br />groundwater samples, 1/4 Inch tubing is <br />lowered Into the screen and a peristaltic or <br />gas Ift pump Is used to retrieve the <br />groundwater sample <br />5O "d dZ9 = ZO 66-ZO--AdV <br />
