Piping from the ABT (piping route) was
routed through two 1'/2-inch diameter, parallel PVC pipes which trend north from the
tank to an outside chiller adjacent the north building wall. The pipelines were
approximately 10 feet long between the ABT and the chiller. Approximately half of the
acid was recovered through an open, concrete-lined utility conduit which was exposed
on the exterior of the north wall approximately 6 feet west of the chiller and exterior acid
piping. The conduit trended north and south, and acid was recovered from this conduit
according to AASC. This work plan provides a scope of environmental services for the
purpose of evaluating the vertical and lateral extent of the phosphoric acid, aluminum,
and copper in soil along the release area. The assumed release area is estimated at
piping joint/s located just exterior to the north structure wall near a chiller unit. Spillage
may also have occurred along the piping route between the ABT and the north building
wall and the concrete utility conduit area located west of the pipeline route.
Based on an existing monitoring well network at the Site, Kleinfelder understands depth
to groundwater is approximately 40 feet below ground surface (bgs) with an east to
southeasterly flow direction. We also understand remedial extraction wells are also
present at the Site, which may influence groundwater flow direction.
PROPOSED SERVICES
This following scope of work includes pre-field activities, soil sampling, laboratory
analyses and reporting, based upon our understanding of current Site conditions, our
Site visit and information provided to Kleinfelder from AASC:
Task 1 — Permitting and Pre-Field Activities
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) requires completion of a
well/boring permit for the site and payment of fees prior to installation of the proposed
boring/well. Kleinfelder will prepare the permit application for submittal to EHD along
95642.ENV/ST09P060 Page 1 of 6 April 2, 2009
Copyright 2009 Kleinfelder
