operated by Career Aviation Academy and Tank 14 are in service Tank 13 was removed in
1987 and soil samples taken from beneath this tank contained concentrations of petroleum
' hydrocarbons below allowable limits As such, the focus of this environmental site investigation
is limited to the fifteen former USTs clustered into two complexes on the north side of the Fuel
Farm (Tanks 1-12 and Tanks 21-23) The eastern former UST complex contained nine tanks
(Tanks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 21, 22, 23) The western former UST complex contained six tanks (Tanks
7, 8, 9 10, 11, 12)
Due to the presence of fuel hydrocarbons encountered during the UST removals, San Joaquin
' County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) requested that an
environmental site investigation be conducted to assess any impact to subsurface soil and
' groundwater at the site As such, the objectives of this proposed scope of work were as follows
1 Evaluate the presence of fuel hydrocarbons in vadose zone soil beneath both of the
former tank complexes,
' 2 Determine whether or not groundwater has been impacted by fuel hydrocarbons,
3 Define subsurface conditions for future soil and groundwater investigation
' 2.0 Scope of Work
' A scope of work consisting of the following three tasks was performed to achieve these project
objectives
1 Planning and Permits
' 2 Soil and Groundwater Investigation
3 Laboratory Analyses
1 A discussion of these three tasks and component subtasks follows
1 2.1 Planning and Permits
The project scope of work was performed according to the Workplan prepared by IT Corporation
' sAC12-22-96/ENG/765436 5
