PHS/EHD has prepared the following
comments for your consideration.
One soil boring was drilled to groundwater and samples of soil and groundwater were collected for laboratory
analysis.
Soil contamination was not detected in the samples collected at 1 foot, 12 feet, and 44 feet below ground
surface. A grab groundwater sample was collected at approximately 52 feet below ground surface, the depth
at which groundwater was first observed. Petroleum hydrocarbon (C7-C32) was detected at 2.8 ppm. The
laboratory subsequently identified the contamination detected as characteristic of motor oil.
PHS/EHD concurs with the Raney Geotechnical's conclusion that the oil detected may have originated from
external sources such as drilling and sampling equipment. PHSIEHD does not concur with the conclusion that
the oil detected was attributable to matrix interference associated with endogenous organic material, since oil
was not detected in any of the soil samples which were collected.
Based on PHS/EHD's evaluation of the information presented, the site will not be placed on contaminated site
list nor with any further action required.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Meays at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane .
