2.4 Lithoig is Description g ,c ption of Soil
During installation of the borings, one boring at the Tank 1.) and 2 location will be geologically
logged at 5 foot intervals from 10 to 35 feet and continuous) from 35 feet bgs to the maximum
.Y g
depth of the boring (anticipated to be 50 feet bgs). Monitor, well borings will be completed after
the soil borings and will be logged at 5 foot intervals from 10 feet bgs to 10 feet above the water
table (as determined from the soil borings) and continuously from 10 feet above the water table
to the total depth of the well (estimated to be 65 to 70 feet), The samples will be described
+ 4 using standard geological classifications of color, texture, mineral content, etc., and classified
according to the Unified Soil Classification System.
a
2.5 Groundwater Sampling
The only prior groundwater sampling conducted at the site was the April 1959 sampling of the
} site supply well. Petroleum related hydrocarbons were not;'detected in the groundwater sample
from this well.
a
The three newly installed monitor wells will be sampled oneIl.week after the wells are developed
to allow the aquifer to stabilize. After purging each well, groundwater samples will be collected
and analyzed for BTEX compounds and TPH-D. The sampling procedures are discussed in
i more detail in subsection 3.2.2.
IF
Groundwater samples will be taken at the Tank 3 and Tank'4 location with a Hydropunch tool.
The tool is inserted through the hollow flight augers and driven into the saturated zone. The
tool is opened and a groundwater sample is retrieved by a bailer. The Hydropunch tool is
subsequently withdrawn and the boring grouted to the surface.
3.0 SAMPLING AND SAMPLE ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
This section details the sampling and analytical protocol too be utilized in the collection and
analysis of soil and groundwater samples for the site.
3.1 General Requirements and Documentation
.i
All work will be conducted under the supervision of a California Registered Geologist. A hard
bound field log book will be kept for the project by the sampling crew chief. All data relating
to the collection of samples and related field activities will be recorded in the log book. Samples
collected will be documented in the log book by the sample ID number, location, time, date, and
sampler's initials. Any observations regarding the sampling process and field related activities
or the surrounding environment which may affect the sampling quality will be noted in the log
book. Each page of the Iog book will be dated along with the logger's initials and the project
name. Any deviations from the sampling protocol or approved work plan will be entered in the
log book.
I
SM%RVrSWCMVCD.VM 6 03114M
I
