PHSIEHD has prepared the following comments for
your consideration.
The results of continued monitoring has indicated that the extent of groundwater
contamination is extremely limited and that the additional remediation is not warranted. Since
the underground storage tanks were removed in 1987, after the industry introduction of the
gasoline additive, methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) it will be necessary to sample monitoring
well, MW1, for MTBE. PHSIEHD also suggests that you sample the facility well for MTBE.
Please submit a closure evaluation report including information requested in the "Appendix B:
Requests for Closure" dated March 1, 1994 and the attached "Case Closure Summary" to
hasten evaluation of your site for closure. Any residual soil contamination should be
estimated and the potential threat to groundwater evaluated.
A work plan to destroy the monitoring wells should also be included in the closure summary.
PHSIEHD looks forward to evaluating this site for closure certification. If you have any
questions or comments, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
lnoa,4——
Mary Meays, Sen REHS
Site Mitigation Unit
MM17759AIR
enclosures
Diane M.
