The work plan is for a demonstration <br /> project to evaluate the effectiveness of using an oxygen-releasing compound to elevate oxygen <br /> concentrations in the vadoz,,zone and groundwater to enhance the biodegradation rate of petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons. The work plan is approved with the following conditions: <br /> 1. If lawn fertilizer is used to increase available nutrients, then the background concentrations of <br /> nitrate and phosphorous shall be measured in the groundwater and reported to the Board prior to <br /> application. Records shall be kept and submitted to the Board on the type and application rate of <br /> fertilizer. Sampling ant.analysis for nitrate and phosphorous shall be included in the proposed <br /> monthly monitoring program and results submitted to the Board in the summary report. Application <br /> rates of fertilizer shall n Dt degrade groundwater quality. Total nitrate concentrations (nitrate+ <br /> nitrite) in the groundwater shall not exceed site background levels. . <br /> 2.
