The vapor is absorbed through the lungs and the <br /> l rrn;A may ha absorbed dirmigh the skin- Prolonged skin contact can cause <br /> de-fatting of the skin, leading to dermatitis. In addition benzene is a <br /> confirmed human carcinogen. These effects have been reported for pure <br /> chemical substances. <br /> 6.0 Air Monitoring Plan <br /> Due to the nature of the chemical hazards on site and the scope of <br /> operations, air monitoring will be conducted to prevent any build up of <br /> volatile hydrocarbons that may create an explosive hazard. In addition to <br /> the monitoring for area build up, personnel monitoring will be considered. <br /> The contractor will conduct monitoring,using a direct reading combustible <br /> gas indicator,periodically during the operations to insure employee <br /> exposure levels are not exceeding the Cal-OSHA (GISO Section 5155) <br /> allowable limits. In the event that any limits are exceeded during the <br /> operations, the safety officer shall remove any affected employees and <br /> evaluate the area and conduct any mitigation necessary to insure working <br /> conditions are brought back to a safe manner. <br />
