Those methods not found in <br />SW 846 are specifically noted below. Refer to the "SWRCB LUFT Field Manual", Appendix D (B), Table 3-5 on page A20 for <br />minimum detection limits for motor vehicle fuel (gasoline and diesel). Refer to 1-2-3 "Regional Board Staff Recommenda[ions <br />for Initial Evaluation and Investigation of UST's" for the waste and motor oil minimum detection limits. <br />Detection Limits that remain below the MCL, STLC or Allowable Limit of the contaminant in question will be accepted, <br />however laboratory shall utilize the most conservative method. <br />L.-kBORATORY ANALYSES TERMINOLOGY: <br />TPH-G Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon, Gasoline. GC/FID (5030) 8015 mod or GC/MS 8260 <br />TPH-D Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon, Diesel, GCIFID (3550). 8015 mod or GC/MS 8260 <br />BTX & E Benzene, Toluene, Xylene & Ethyl Benzene, GCIPID 8020 or GC/MS 8260 <br />CL HC Chlorinated Hydrocarbon, GCIHSD 8010. GC/MS 8240 <br />TOTAL LEAD Total lead, AA 7420, AA 7421 or ICP -AES 6010 <br />MTBE,TAME,DIPE,TBA GC/MS 8260 <br />METALS ICAP or AA Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry 6010 or Atomic Absorption <br />Spectrometry 7000. <br />Notes: To avoid false positive detection of benzene, benzene -free solvents are to be used. Fused capillary columns are preferred to packed <br />columns: a packed column may be used as a "first cut" with "dirty" samples or once the hydrocarbons have been characterized and proper <br />QAIQC is followed. <br />For drinking water sources, EPA recommends that the 500 series for volatile organic should be used in preference to the 600 series because the <br />detection limits are lower and the QA/QC is better.
