Preparation For Filling (con't)
Notes:
1. Since smaller capacity 6' and 8' diameter tanks only
have 4" fitting in fiberglass reservoir, place one
standpipe in reservoir fitting.
2. 4' diameter tanks have no reservoir. Place a 4" riser
(contractor supplied) into 4" annular space fitting.
Filling with Liquid
CAUTION:
• The liquid to fill the cavity must be gravity fed by pour-
ing liquid into the standpipe.
• A water hose may be used only if it is not screwed or
attached to any of monitoring fittings.
• Do not connect a pressurized hose directly to the moni-
toring fitting or you will over -pressurize the cavity
and could cause tank damage.
DO
• If the tank is sloped, fill annular space from low end of
sloped tank.
• Continue to fill cavity with water until liquid begins to
overflow standpipes.
• Refill cavity through the fill standpipe.
After Filling is Complete
• Disconnect standpipe at the monitoring fitting.
❑ Replace and tighten fitting plug.
• Standpipe in reservoir remains connected to reservoir
monitoring fitting (annular space fitting for 4' tanks).
• Gravity fill cavity and remaining standpipe in reservoir
until liquid level in standpipe is at least 2' higher than
tank top.
Testing
• Continue refilling to the 2' level on the standpipe until
the liquid level stabilizes (less than I" drop in 4 hours).
Testing (con't)
• Ifbackfilling after filling annular space, thoroughly check
outer tank for leaks.
❑ An exterior leak detected before backfilling is simple
to repair.
❑ Do not backfill a tank with a known or suspected
leak in the outer wall.
Note: In the unlikely event a tank leak is discovered, call
Fluid Containment Field Service, number on page 2.
• Remove a primary tank fitting plug and inspect the inner
tank for any signs of liquid, which could indicate an in-
ner wall leak.
• After the liquid level has stabilized:
❑ Disconnect the remaining fill standpipe in reservoir.
• Place permanent (4" recommended) riser pipe in reser-
voir fitting (4" riser is required in annular space fitting
for 4' tanks) to grade. Check reservoir liquid level by
inserting a dipstick in the reservoir riser pipe using wa-
ter fmder paste.
• Determine if reservoir is '/, full by using the following
reservoir liquid level measurements.
Tank
Diameter
Reservoir Liquid
Level Measurement
4'
s"
6'
4"
g', lo'*
4"
lo'**
9"
* 10,000, 12,000, 15,000 and 20,000 gallon tanks only.
**25,000 and 30,000 gallon tanks only.
Additional fluid may be added, if necessary, so that the fi-
berglass reservoir is %: full.
C5. Fiberglass Reservoir Sensor
Monitoring Liquid Level in Fiberglass Reservoir
• Periodically, by using a dipstick.
• Continuously, by using optional reservoir sensor (in con-
junction with an optional electronic control panel).
❑ Monitoring sensor is placed into reservoir (annular
space fitting for 4' tanks) through a 4" diameter riser
pipe from grade.
_S_
AbOM ASID 4
Flntl•CM•11
IS
