5.2.1 Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons
Typically, the concentrated vapor of pure aromatic
hydrocarbons can cause central nervous system damage, depending the
compound, hepatic, renal, or bone marrow disorders. The vapor is absorbed
through the lungs and the liquid may be absorbed through the skin.
Prolonged skin contact can cause de -fatting of the skin, leading to dermatitis.
In addition benzene is a confirmed carcinogen. These affects have been
reported for pure chemical substance.
6.0 Air Monitoring Plan
Due to the nature of the chemicals on site and the scope of the
operations, air monitoring will be conducted to prevent any build up
of volatile hydrocarbons that may an explosive hazard. The CIH will
conduct monitoring, using a direct reading from a combustible gas
indicator, periodically during the course of the operation. Lower
explosive levels will be maintained below 10%. If LEL readings at
anytime exceed 10%, work inside the tank will be stopped and all
entrants evacuated until acceptable LEL readings are obtained.
6.1 Confined Space Entry
All activities related to the entry of the tank will be conducted
in accordance with the underground tank entry procedures contained
in the Fluid Containment Field Service Manual. Containment Solution
will provide the safety observer. C.L Bryant will arrange for the on-
site stand-by emergency crews, which will be provided by the city of
Tracy.
7.0 Safety Equipment
a. Fire truck
b.
