WORK PLAN TO REMEDIATE
HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOILS
RAINBO BAKING FACILITY
2651 SOUTH AIRPORT BOULEVARD
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
December 14, 1990
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan is presented by Groundwater Technology, Inc.to summarize the proposed steps for
excavation and remediation of hydrocarbon-impacted soils identified at the above-referenced site (Figure
1, Appendix A).
2.0 BACKGROUND
The site is the Rainbo-Earthgrains bakery of the Rainbo Baking Company of Sacramento Valley
(owned by Campbell-Taggart)where evidence of soil contamination of an undetermined origin was identified
in a surface drainage ditch by Rainbo personnel and San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division
(SJCEHD) during August 1990. Results of laboratory analyses of soil samples collected at the estimated
point of greatest contamination (a sump at the mouth of the ditch) revealed 180,000 parts per million(ppm)
.. light motor-oil range hydrocarbons. The drainage ditch extends for approximately 300 yards along the
southwest border of the Rainbo parcel. The ditch empties into an unlined canal that in turn drains into Duck
Creek canal at a point approximately 1/4-mile southwest of the site (Figures 1 and 2, Appendix A). Water
flowing into the ditch is believed to originate from various storm run-off drains located around the Rafnbo
building. Rainbo is currently working to Isolate the source of contamination, and prevent additional drainage
to the ditch area. All drainage from the Rainbo ditch to Duck Creek has been dammed to prevent additional
impact to the creek (which is protected by the Department of Fish and Game).
JJ 'GROUNDWATER
!
