1 6 6
BP CHEMICALS
February 9, 1990
Mr. Ron Valinoti
Public Health Services
of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 2009
1601 E. Hazelton
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Mr. Valinoti,
BP Chemicals Inc.
Advanced Materials Division
Aerospace Composites
3437 South Airport Way
PDBox 6189
Stockton
CA 95206
Tel: 209 982 0160
Fax: 209 982 1724
FE 3,yr"
In accordance with Department of Health Services Corrective Action Order and
Complaint for Penalty (Docket HWCA 89/90-31), BP Chemicals Inc. has implemented
the following measures to comply with the Schedule For Compliance items 3.1.1
-3.1.5.
3.1.1. All hazardous waste containers are labeled with the words
"Hazardous Waste". The labels also include the accumulation start date,
waste composition, hazard class, and our name and address. Effective
10/20/89.
3.1.2. A hazardous waste tracking form is used to ensure that wastes are
not stored onsite for more than 90 days. (Figure 1) Effective 9/8/89.
3.1.3. Incompatible wastes are separated by containment cells. Compatible
wastes are stored in a separate area. (Figure 2) Effective 2/13/90.
3.1.4. A daily inspection of the hazardous waste storage area will ensure
that containers are in good condition. (Figure 3) Effective 2/8/90.
3.1.5. A daily inspection of the hazardous waste storage area, as well
as the separation of incompatible wastes, will minimize the possibility
of a fire, explosion, or any unplanned, sudden, or non -sudden release of
hazardous waste to air, soil, or surface water which could threaten human
health or the environment. Effective 2/13/90,
BP Chemicals Inc. feels that the Schedule For Compliance items have been
satisfactorily addressed, and we will be awaiting your reply.
Sincerely,
Lon K. Kitagawa
Safety Coordinator
