0 0
HAZARDOUS WASTE INSPECTION
JUNE 11, 2007
NOTICE TO COMPLY
#10 Failed to determine if a waste is a hazardous waste.
The parts washer was currently empty, but according to our Facilities Engineer, it
will continue to be used on an "as -needed" basis. Therefore, the filters will not be
disposed of until they have become spent.
#12 Facility not maintained to minimize the release of a hazardous waste.
Absorbent pads were placed around the lathe to absorb the cutting oil from the
lathe and minimize the release. Spent sandblasting sand has also been swept up
and placed into the accumulation drum. Employees will receive hazardous waste
refresher training (Environmental Management) during the month of July or
August emphasizing the need to minimize hazardous waste releases.
#19 Stored hazardous waste on site longer than 90 days without a permit or
authorization.
The drum of cutting coolant, in addition to another drum which was recently
generated, were transported offsite on June 25, 2007. Attached is a copy of
Manifest #000304821GBF, Page 2, Line item #7. Employees will receive
hazardous waste refresher training (Environmental Management) during the
month of July or August emphasizing the fact that hazardous waste shall not be
stored on site longer than 90 days or not shipped offsite within 1 year if located in
a satellite accumulation area.
#20 Failed to properly label containers of hazardous waste.
The red satellite accumulation containers that have faded labels have been re-
labeled. AASC is currently researching a labeling machine that might prevent the
fading of labels. Until one is found, periodic inspections of the red satellite
accumulation containers will be conducted, and any fading labels will be
replaced.
421 Failed to keep containers of HW closed except when addingtremoving HW.
The drum of film adhesive in the Bldg. 5 clean room was closed and corrected
onsite and the drum of film adhesive in the Blue Room was also closed that same
day. Employees will receive hazardous waste refresher training (Environmental
Management) during the month of July or August emphasizing the need to keep
hazardous waste containers closed.
