As mentioned in our Return to Compliance Certification which was
sent on July 1, 2014, Applied Aerospace Structures Corp. (AASC) planned to redesign the
Alodine tanks and complete requirements to satisfactorily meet the certified tank assessments.
This task was not a quick fix as it involved several outside services, design and procurement of
equipment, and careful coordination of production downtime to allow installation of
components.
AASC completed the redesign of the Alodine 600, Solution 19, and rinse tank in early January
2015. This project included the purchase and installation of the new polymer tanks with built-in
secondary containment, demolition of old piping and old electrical equipment, and installation of
new piping and new electrical equipment. The redesign also resulted in the need to modify and
relocate the existing Titanium processing tanks. This included the purchase of a new stainless
steel secondary containment unit. Total cost for this project was $31,263. I have included
photos of the old Alodine area and the new Alodine tank system.
Siegfried Engineering was hired to conduct the hazardous waste tank system assessment for the
area under the rinse tanks in Building 3 (a.k.a "pit"). Siegfried Engineering worked with
Strandberg Associates to conduct the assessment and generate a preliminary report. This
preliminary report was sent to AASC, however, not all recommendations could be implemented.
Additional time was needed to come up with a feasible solution. In order to meet the
requirements and have the assessment certified, AASC made repairs and improvements. Tasks
included the refurbishment of the concrete coating in the sump (Bldg. 3 pit), the demolition of
old grating and installation of new fiberglass grating (to allow better sump access for
cleaning/inspection), and the removal, cleaning, repair and re-installation of the pH
neutralization system that supported sump coating refurbishment. Total cost for this project was
$22,595. We are currently working to implement operating procedures that will satisfy the
