Notice of Public Hearing and Comment Period on Proposed Closure Plan for Hazardous Waste Land Disposal Facilities and CEQA Negative Declaration The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Health Services (DHS) request public comments on a proposed Closure Plan for hazardous waste land disposal facilities, Pits 1 and 7, at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Site 300, CA2890090002. If approved, the plan would define the steps which LLNL-Site 300 at Corral Hollow Road (located in the counties of Alameda and San Joaquin), will complete to meet the requirements to close the two hazardous waste landfills under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, 42 U.S.C., Sec. 6901 et seq.; 40 C.F.R., Part 265, Subpart G; and California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Sec. 67212. The wastes contained in the pits are a mixture of hazardous and low-level radioactive waste also called "mixed wastes." DHS also requests public comments on the proposed Negative Declaration for the project as defined by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Negative Declaration asserts the closure project does not pose a significant threat to the environment or human health.
