LLLawrence Livermore National La Itory
Site 300
Central General Services Area Removal Action
Public Comment Period on Draft Engineering
Evaluation/Cost Analysis Begins
Administrative Record
Available for Public Review
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is conducting an
investigation and cleanup of contaminated soil and ground water at Site
300, located in the Altamont Hills approximately 8 miles southwest of
Tracy, California. In August 1990, the Site 300 cleanup became part of
the federal hazardous waste clean-up program, known as "Superfund."
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has lead oversight responsi-
bility for the site clean-up activities. Funding for these activities is
provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Elevated concentrations of volatile organic compounds have been
detected in soil and ground water at the site of two former dry wells
located in the Central General Services Area (GSA) of Site 300. LLNL is
proposing to prevent further movement of contaminants in the Central
GSA by treating contaminated ground water and soil. This Removal
Action would consist of construction and operation of a ground water
treatment system and a soil vapor extraction and treatment system.
The draft Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) discusses all
of the removal action alternatives considered for the Central GSA,
including the preferred alternative. The Administrative Record for the
Central GSA Removal Action contains all documents and correspon-
dence related to the proposal to conduct this effort.
